KINGMAN – A deadly shooting is under investigation in Kingman. Police Chief Rusty Cooper said officers responded at 5:20 p.m. Saturday when suspect Jon Nels Sandvold called 911 and told dispatchers he shot his stepson in the 2000 block of Pacific Ave.

“Officers arrived and found Sandvold standing in the front yard with his arms in the air,” Cooper said. Sandvold was arrested without incident.

“Sandvold’s stepson, Samuel Joseph Robinson, 39, of Kingman, was located in a nearby parked vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to his body,” Cooper said. Robinson reportedly died following transport to Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Cooper said investigators learned there had been ongoing contention between Sandvold and Robinson and that the pair argued Saturday about Robinson’s dog.

Sandvold reportedly admitted shooting Robinson as he occupied the passenger seat of a pickup truck with his 61-year-old mother positioned in the driver’s seat.

“Sandvold, armed with the handgun, fired numerous times into the vehicle, shooting Robinson multiple times,” Cooper said. “Robinson’s mother was not shot, but had minor abrasive injuries from flying debris.”

Sandvold was booked into the Adult Detention Center for second-degree murder, aggravated assault, endangerment and domestic violence.
