BCSD offering free Tech Tuesday classes for parents

BULLHEAD CITY – Parents who may be scratching their heads about technology skills used by students in class or remotely, or who need help accessing their children’s grades, can now get free online training from experts at Desert Valley School.  “Tech Tuesdays” classes launch April 6, and will cover a different topic each week through May.

Classes are every Tuesday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m.  Each will take place via Google Meet and Google Classroom; advanced registration is required.  Classes are open to all parents in the Bullhead City School District with students in grades Pre-K through eight.

Teacher Krissina Torres-Tucker will be the instructor, along with library media specialist Sonyia Roy.

“Parents are encouraged to ask any questions that they might have regarding technology,” said Roy.

April’s launch programs include how to prepare children for AZ Merit standardized tests (April 6), an introduction to students’ Clever digital learning platform accounts (April 13) and an introduction to Zearn, an online math support program (April 20).

When registering, parents will be able choose from 20 different topics that interest them.  A future workshop will be about ParentVUE, which offers access to the student and classroom information and different types of communication from the school or district for each child.  ParentVUE is also used by parents to register children for school.

“We cannot provide usernames and passwords, as parents will have to be onsite for the actual enrollment,” noted Roy, “but they can at least participate in a beginner’s course beforehand.”

The registration form is available of the Tech Tuesdays sign-up icon at https://sites.google.com/a/bullheadschools.com/desert-valley/ .  Additional information is also available at 928-758-6606.

Tech Tuesdays are underwritten by a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant.
