MEADVIEW – A local resident was fatally injured in a single vehicle traffic accident in the community of Meadview over the weekend. Mohave County sheriff’s office personnel responded Saturday at 4:20 p.m. to the incident in the area of N. Escalante Blvd and E. Bradley Bay Dr.

“The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as Joey Douglas Preston, 41 of Meadview, was pronounced deceased on the scene,” said agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen. She said it was determined that Preston was operating a Jeep truck at a high rate of speed while west bound on Bradley Bay Dr.

“The vehicle, which had no doors, left the roadway before coming back onto the road,” Mortensen said. :The vehicle began to fishtail and Preston, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.”

Mortensen said Preston suffered severe head trauma and that the unmanned Jeep continued westbound before striking a stop sign and coming to rest just west of the Escalante Dr. intersection. The accident investigation is ongoing.
