GOLDEN VALLEY – A baby that was unresponsive when pulled from the family swimming pool in Golden Valley was resuscitated and brought back to life at Kingman Regional Medical Center. The Mohave County Sheriff’s office classified Tuesday’s incident as a “drowning” because the year-old victim was not breathing and did not have a pulse when pulled from the pool at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the 3200 block of N. Hano Rd.
Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said the father began CPR until medical personnel arrived and took over medical treatment during transport to Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC). She said hospital staff were able to regain a pulse and the victim was flown to a Las Vegas hospital in critical condition.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the child and his family had been swimming in the pool earlier in the evening,” Mortensen said. “The family had exited the pool and the child and his siblings continued to play in the nearby area of the pool.”
Mortensen said the baby slipped away from his siblings and may have been in the pool for up to 15 minutes before it was discovered in a floating position and removed by an adult. She said there was no fencing around the above-ground pool, approximately 4 ft. in height.
The incident remains under investigation.
