Arsonist gets prison for library fire

KINGMAN – Starting a fire in a bathroom at the Mohave County District library in Kingman will result in a trip to the Arizona Department of Corrections for Tamere Srour. The 23-year-old Kingman man pleaded guilty Aug. 9 to arson of an occupied structure.

Neither police nor prosecutors learned what upset Srour and what motivated his involvement in the June 23 incident. Kingman police chief Rusty Cooper said a review of internet log on activity helped investigators identify Srour as the suspect.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Karolina Czaplinska told Judge Doug Camacho that Srour lit a paper towel dispenser on fire in the men’s room of the library.

Czaplinska told the Court that the library was open and patrons were in the building when the small fire caused about $300 in damage to the bathroom wall, but injured no one. Czaplinska said another man occupied a stall when the fire was set.

Terms of the deal require Judge Camacho to impose a 3-5-year prison term at a Sept. 8 sentencing hearing.
