KINGMAN – A late Monday afternoon explosion in the 1700 block of Adams Street rocked the tranquility of the neighborhood but injured no one. Several people reported the incident at about 4:30 p.m. where a man in his fenced backyard was extracting material from the kind of blank ammunition they use for movies.

“He reported he was using a heating process to remove primer and powder from unused ammunition,” said Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper. Cooper said the blast flung debris particles quite some distance.

“There were no projectiles or bullets but there were small pieces of casings that flew maybe 100 yards,” Cooper said. “Nobody was hurt. Nobody was endangered. There really was no damage. It was just very loud.”

Cooper said the matter remains under investigation but that no charges are anticipated against the 46-year-old man whose name was not released.
