MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County enjoyed a significant reduction in new COVID-19 cases last week but is still considered a hotspot by national standards, according to Denise Burley. The Department of Public Health Director told the Board of Supervisors Monday that the number of new coronavirus cases dropped 26% in Mohave County last week, compared with the previous week.
Burley said however the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC) still place the county and the state of Arizona in the COVID-19 “red zone” for two statistical reasons. She said the county and state positivity rate both remain above 10% and that more than 100 new cases are being reported for every 100,000 people in both jurisdictions.
Burley said 1,394 people have recovered from the coronavirus in Mohave County. She said the average age for infected people in the county is 48.4 and that the local average age of death from COVID-19 is 77.
In answer to a question posed by supervisor Hildy Angius, Burley noted that they’ve not yet documented the coronavirus within the area homeless population.
New data presentation models are expected to be discussed when Burley and the Board conduct the next COVID-19 management meeting on Thursday.
