KINGMAN – Anticipating the cancellation of the Kingman Veterans Day Parade the Kingman Marine Corps League (KMCL), started several weeks ago, to plan an event that would honor our veterans from the greater Kingman, Golden Valley, Chloride area. The KMCL had made contact with the Kingman City Parks Department who worked with the City to obtain approval for this special event. Unlike a parade that is for a few hours on one day, this event will be spread out over three days and allow a series of banners to be placed in the downtown Veterans Park that will display a collage of photos of our area veterans. To prevent theft or damage to the banners they will be put up and taken down each day of the event. KMCL will be asking for volunteers for the dates and times in question. Weather permitting, the banners will be displayed on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Nov. 11, 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
This plan was meant to meet the current guidelines of social safety and still allow a way to honor our veterans, past and present.
The KMCL will be sending a letter to each Veterans Organization asking them to set up a system to collect photos and information for the banners. Each photo should have a 3×5 card with veteran’s name, years of service, branch of service, rank is optional. Example: “Mike Marine, 1965-1969 United States Marine Corps “. If several family members, who were service members, wish to be displayed together, they must be in the same package/envelope with the noted information. Envelopes will be returned to the collecting Organization after scanning. The plan is to work with the local veterans organizations to set up a date when KMCL can scan the photos on the spot and return them on the spot. They also have a special email just for this project vetdayproject@mcl887.org. Photos should be at 300 DPI (dots per inch) for a clear photograph. Do not send FaceBooks capture or web site photos as they will not work very well and, in most cases, as they will be to small and blurry when converted to print. When sending photos follow the same format as noted prior, veteran’s name, years of service, branch. This email should only be used for photo submission.
