Bike ride of death

KINGMAN – A ride down Fifth Street on the southside of the tracks is, and has been, a challenge for any kid who grew up in the neighborhood.

Four boys rode scooters down from the top of Fifth Street starting from between Union Pass and Oatman Avenue Thursday evening. The hill has a steep grade and about a 100-meter elevation gain (or loss, depending how you look at it) and depending on weight and mass, can reach speeds between 35 on 50 MPH.

Kingman Police haven’t clocked the speeds yet, but who’s to stop them from the challenge?

A simple swerve or distraction can lead to an emergency room visit or a trip to Walgreens for hydrogen peroxide, bandages, and Neosporin.

“They gave me a heart attack,” said mother, Teena Blevins, who was watching two of her boys in the group ride. “They do a lot of crazy stuff like that.”

The kids had no problem and rode down the hill at least twice and got a thrill doing it.
