Sobering win for Jean Bishop

MOHAVE COUNTY – Board of Supervisors Chairman Jean Bishop won the only contested county-wide race in the Mohave County general election. The Dist. 4 supervisor said this doesn’t seem to be the proper time or year to celebrate.

“It doesn’t feel like the typical victory because of all of the unrest and uneasiness of the world and the nation and particularly the Dist. 4 people who are really frustrated with COVID and all the restrictions and everything,” Bishop said Thursday. “So, it’s not much of a victory feel for me. It’s more of a relief that this is over and now I can get back to work for the people and try to figure how to maneuver through all this COVID stuff.”

Bishop said the cloud of the coronavirus pandemic is so full of uncertainty that it’s really difficult to look very far forward.

“It’s just unprecedented. Nobody knows what to expect. Elected officials like myself are just as frustrated as the citizens out there,” Bishop said. “What the heck is going to happen next?”

Bishop spent part of Wednesday and Thursday collecting her campaign signs. “I’m cleaning up Mohave County,” she said.

Bishop thanked family, friends and campaign supporters. She said she will retire upon completion of her new four-year term.

Elections Director Allen Tempert has signaled an expectation that the Mohave County vote count could be completed early next week.
