KINGMAN – The Kingman Unified School District (KUSD) is ending its four-day week in class option due to spread of COVID-19, with at least 10 coronavirus cases connected to five different buildings.
Superintendent Gretchen Dorner said four Lee Williams High School students, and one student each at Kingman High School, White Cliffs Middle School and Manzanita Elementary School have tested positive. Dorner said three other cases, involving at least one staff member, are linked to Cerbat Elementary School.
Cerbat will fully revert back to online learning only beginning Monday. All other KUSD buildings on Monday will return to an “AB schedule”, a hybrid model in which rotations are employed to provide social distance space for students attending class in person just two days a week. Cerbat will morph from online learning to the AB model on Nov. 30 following a one-week quarantine.
Dorner said the KUSD will not return to a 4 day in-person schedule before the start of the next semester Dec. 17. She said she is thankful that the case counts are low and spread through buildings, rather than concentrated in higher numbers in any setting. She said inconvenience of change in education delivery methods should be mitigated by the fact that the district has already used three different models during the ongoing pandemic.
Dorner said mask, social distance and disinfecting measures are employed to help prevent spread of the virus. She said the KUSD is in close contact with public health officials while doing all it can to continue to educate students as safe as is as possible.
