MOHAVE COUNTY – A dozen new deaths are reported in Mohave County’s latest daily coronavirus update. The death toll has reached 403 in northwest Arizona with 15,401 people testing positive.
Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley told supervisors during their Tuesday board meeting that 7.1% of the county population has tested positive during the pandemic.
“The percent of tests that are positive all times over the course of the last 10 months is 16%. The percent of tests that were positive in the week ending 12/27 was 29.5%. So about a third of our population is testing positive. 1 out of 3,” Burley said. “We had 332 new infections identified amongst school age children the week ending 1/9. So, you can see that’s a large contributor to our cases.”
Burley said the county fatality rate among positive cases is 2.1%.
“24% of those deaths are from long term care or assisted living facilities,” she said. “1,495 people have been hospitalized at some point during their illness.”
Burley said 3 of the 4 area hospitals report critical staffing shortages with bed space scarce. The hospitals report 98% of in-patient beds are occupied, 33% of those COVID-19 case positive. She said the hospitals report 79% of their ICU beds full, 62% of those Covid case positive.
