LAKE HAVASU CITY – Grab your Kwiksets, Masters, and Medecos. Your Baldwin, Schlages and Yales. The Paris love lock tradition is expanding at Arizona’s historic London Bridge in Lake Havasu City. Over the past ten years, lovers have written their names on padlocks or combination locks and locked in their love on a fence at the bridge’s entrance. Nowadays, the locks seen on this fence are packed tighter than a heart-shaped box of chocolates. Both visitors and residents are keeping this endearing tradition alive by crossing the bridge and attaching their locks to the island-side fencing.
There’s plenty of room for more locks – not just on Valentine’s Day, but any day. No permission is required.
“People say there are ghosts on the bridge, but we have no proof. These locks are proof that two people came here to demonstrate their love for each other,” said Jan Kassies, director of the Lake Havasu Visitor Information Center. The locks are part of a walking tour Kassies will again lead once the Covid-19 crisis has abated.
