DOLAN SPRINGS – The Mohave County Sheriff’s office has detailed a suicidal standoff in Dolan Springs and provided new information in what is says was a double homicide in north Kingman last month. Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies responded to a 3:54 a.m., Feb. 12 report of domestic violence in progress in Dolan Springs.
Deputies arriving at the residence in the area of N Jasper Dr. and W. Seventh St. encountered gunfire, according to Mortensen.
“SWAT was activated and responded to the scene,” Mortensen said. “Announcements were made for the male subject to exit the residence, however those commands went unanswered.”
Mortensen said SWAT personnel made entry and found the suspect dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. His name is initially withheld and the investigation continues.
Details of the Jan. 28 deaths of two men in north Kingman remain sketchy. The sheriff’s office reports that Kaleb Stein, 29, told authorities that he argued with Alois Vetter, 53, about personal property after Vetter and another man visited Stein’s residence in the 7100 block of Connecticut Dr.
“The verbal altercation escalated into an exchange of gunfire between Stein and Vetter inside the residence,” a news release said. “Both Vetter and the second male subject were located deceased on the property.”
Stein was uninjured, has not been charged and there’s no indication how the other man was killed.
“Ballistics tests and lab samples have been sent off for analysis,” the release said. “The investigation is ongoing and once completed, it will be forwarded to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for review.”
The name of the second man who was killed is withheld pending notification of kin.
