KINGMAN – The death of a female inmate at the Mohave County Adult Detention Center is under investigation. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said it was 6:37 p.m. Sunday when a detention officer discovered that Christie Marie Fortner had hung herself in her jail cell.
“The officer was conducting rounds at the time,” Mortensen said. “The officer entered the cell and initiated lifesaving efforts. Additional officers and medical staff responded but Fortner could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Fortner, 37, Kingman, was being held on criminal trespass and theft charges from separate cases.
Mortensen said investigation continues but that foul play is not suspected.
