KINGMAN – An elderly Las Vegas man faces a possible prison sentence following his trial conviction in a Bullhead City bank robbery. A Mohave County Superior Court jury deliberated less than an hour Wednesday before finding John McGuire, 79, guilty of armed robbery.
Deputy county attorney Reed Weisberg said no one was injured during the Oct., 2017 hold-up at the U.S. Bank branch in the 2400 block of Highway 95. Weisberg said Mcguire told a bank teller to “be calm” when he presented a demand note and displayed what appeared to be a weapon in his waistband.
Weisberg said McGuire fled the bank with less than $500 and was captured at a Laughlin casino a week after the robbery. He said a bb gun found in his van is believed to be what McGuire used in the robbery.
McGuire is eligible for probation but could get up to12.5 years in prison when sentenced later this month by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle.
