LAKE HAVASU CITY – A young Lake Havasu City man accused of raping a highly intoxicated teenager is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections. 20-year-old Michael Leander pleaded guilty April 2 to a reduced charge of attempted sexual assault.
Police said Leander knew his 16-year-old victim was impaired last Nov. 8 when he engaged in sex with her in a shed in the 2900 block of North Eldorado Avenue.
Deputy Mohave County Attorney Jacob Cote told Judge Billy Sipe that the girl drank about a half of a bottle of vodka.
“She was so intoxicated that she was not able to walk on her own or sit upright,” Cote said. “And she was vomiting. The defendant was aware of her condition.”
An investigation began after the teen told her father what happened.
Leander faces a 2- to 8.75-year prison term when sentenced April 30.
