MOHAVE COUNTY – Nearly 93,000 Mohave County residents have received at least one COVID-19 dose and 35,168 are fully vaccinated. And Dist. 2 supervisor Hildy Angius said adults should have little trouble getting vaccinated in short order as demand exceeding supply is overcome as vaccinations rise.

“If you want an appointment, you can get one. If you have any problems, you can call the health department,” Angius said. “In my district you can call my office. We’ve been helping people.”

Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley told the board of supervisors Monday that making appointments and getting shots on the same day is increasingly common. She said 96 people were vaccinated at a recent event in Golden Shores and that her department helped conduct additional shot clinics last week for school teachers in Bullhead City, Mohave Valley and Kingman.

Burley said Safeway has done a great job as a county partner at a number of the larger scale vaccine clinics.

“They have been awesome,” she said. “They’ve jumped into the with us and our combined resources have really allowed us to provide these types of events and work jointly and collaboratively.”

She praised the decision to temporarily suspend administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine since 8 people have suffered blood clot issues, though 6.8 million doses of that brand of vaccine have been administered.

“The pause is a positive step,” Burley said. She elaborated that the pause will allow for data analysis to determine best practice going forward.
