KINGMAN – A Kingman teenager reportedly skipped school for a sexual liason with a California man who was arrested after the pair engaged in sexual activity in his vehicle last week. Kingman police subsequently issued an advisory on the dangers of social media along with a news release regarding the arrest of Marc Bryan Cariaga Mayubay, 20, Delano, Ca.
Police Chief Rusty Cooper said officers responded at 7:35 a.m. on April 22 to a call of suspicious activity in the 800 block of N. 1st street. A citizen had reported witnessing two young people engaged in sexual activity inside a parked SUV.
Arriving officers corroborated that Mayubay was involved in illegal contact with a 16-year-old girl.
“It was also determined that the victim and Mayubay had connected sometime during the previous weeks by using an app called ‘Monkey’,” Cooper said. “Mayubay is alleged to have driven to Kingman that morning, picked up the victim at her bus stop and parked near her school. Mayubay provided the victim with a new cell phone and a sizeable amount of cash.”
Cooper said Mayubay admitted involvement and was arrested and booked into jail on charges of sexual abuse and sexual conduct with a minor. He said the victim who was not injured was released to her parents.
The news release included a warning to parents that the Monkey app randomly connects teens with other Snapchat users without ability to verify ages of those involved in communications.
“As always, parents are encouraged to monitor their children’s phone and computer activity,” it stated. “Please report any suspected criminal activity.”
