LAKE HAVASU CITY – A 10.5-year prison term has been ordered for a Lake Havasu City man who resolved separate stabbing and arson incidents through a plea agreement. The punishment imposed Tuesday for Gary Edwin Pappilli, 64, was mandated in the deal convicting him of aggravated assault and attempted arson of an occupied structure.
Pappilli was wanted for attempted murder for the Sept. 3, 2020 stabbing of a 77-year-old man during an altercation in the 2000 block of Quartzite Place when he was located the next day at a trailer in the 3500 block of Grelle St. Mohave County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said Pappilli yelled at officers claiming he had bombs and would blow up the house.
Mortensen said a woman exited the home before smoke began emanating from the dwelling. She said Pappilli brandished a large wooden stick and charged at deputies as he came through the front door while throwing rocks and a glass bottle.
Mortensen said non-lethal rounds fired at Pappilli had no effect but that he was detained following successful deployment of a Taser. Pappilli was treated for minor injuries.
