A teenager has died following a watercraft collision at Lake Havasu. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said the accident occurred Saturday, June 12 in the north basin of the lake.

MCSO spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said Jorge Contreras, 16, Rialto, CA was ejected when the personal watercraft he was operating collided with a 28 ft. boat. She said the Kingman man operating the boat and others called 9-1-1 and pulled Contreras from the water.

“They began life saving measures and transported him to the Lake Havasu State Park,” Mortensen said. Contreras was taken to Havasu Regional Medical Center and flown to the Las Vegas hospital where he died Tuesday, June 15.

“Through investigations, it was determined that speed, operator inexperience and operation behavior of the PWC were contributing factors of the crash,” Mortensen said. “No criminal charges will be filed on the 49-year-old operator of the involved boat.”
