Bullhead City Senior Campus is beating the heat with indoor activities

Share

BULLHEAD CITY  –  August promises to offer new opportunities to our area senior’s age 50+. Most activities are sponsored and completely free. The Campus is open Monday-Friday from 8a-4p to all seniors and after hours for special events.

New activities that are being introduced for the first time are weekly Line Dance Instruction with Scootin Boots Line Dancing instructor Karen Astorga. Karen teaches Country line dancing for beginners and accepts donations only. The first class is Tuesday, August 3rd.  For questions call Karen at (619) 419-8428. Then we have the Gamblers Anonymous Meetings forming at the Campus weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7-8 pm. For questions call Toni at (702) 523-5959. Next, We Care Cancer Support Inc. will be holding monthly cancer support meetings on the second Tuesday of every month. Meetings are in a comfortable, informal room that is private and confidential. Meetings are open to all family members, caregivers, friends, and those who are interested in learning more about how they can help. For more information, please call (928) 299-5022. Light refreshments are provided by Tri-State Pain Institute.

We also are excited to add a beginner sewing group.  Come learn how to make a fun easy project each month.  The August 6th project is a cellphone purse with a cross-body strap. For questions on sewing contact Ivy Yeomans at (928) 234-7344. Lastly, we finally have an instructor for our Quilting Group, and everyone who has a passion for quilting is invited to come work on their favorite projects, help others or learn the techniques. If you would like to help with materials needed please stop in with any of the following items between 8-4 Monday-Friday: Sewing machine, spray starch, rotary cutters, fabric, scissors, iron, quilt rulers, clear rulers, sewing machine, needles ie: Schmetz brand size 90/14, 90/11, seam ripper, chalk pencils, cotton material, batting, Christmas material, hand sewing needles, medium to large safety pins, quilting straight pins, sewing straight pins, jelly rolls, fat 1/4s. For questions on quilting contact: Jan Montgomery jmontgom54@gmail.com or (928) 219-2050.

One new addition to the Campus is going to be the “Angels Essential Area” which will feature donated items to the campus that will be re-gifted to seniors in need. The area will open on Tuesdays from 10 am- 1 pm and individuals who need items can browse and take the items home with them. It is first come first serve and no holds. Please come prepared with a plan to remove the items you need on the spot. Any cash donation for items will be placed in the city fund. The fund directly assists activities for the senior campus. Cash donations are not required if individuals are unable and proof is not required, but we will limit individuals so that everyone is able to enjoy access to the items. If anyone would like to make a donation, please bring it to the campus anytime we are open. Donations we are looking for are walkers, wheelchairs, briefs, and senior essential needs. We are unable to take any kind of medications, but they can be disposed of through the Bullhead City Police Department.
