KINGMAN – Kingman police report a local man was shot when violence escalated during a weekend altercation. Police Chief Rusty Cooper said investigation began when the 27-year-old victim was being treated for a gunshot wound at Kingman Regional Medical Center on Saturday, Aug. 7.
Cooper said the violence occurred at a gathering in the 3800 block of N. Evans St. He said Matthew David Garcia, 29, Roswell, New Mexico, intentionally shot the victim in the leg during the battle.
The victim was flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Garcia was arrested and jailed for aggravated assault and weapons offenses for prohibited possession and unlawful discharge.
Cooper said a stolen handgun was recovered and that the case investigation continues.
