KINGMAN -Her family, friends and the fiance whom she stabbed all asked the Court for leniency in punishment for a troubled Kingman woman who already twice served time in the Arizona Department of Corrections. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert instead declared Kayla Blocker, 30, a danger to the community before he ordered a four-year prison term Monday.

Defense attorney Christopher Margolis said Blocker had enjoyed some success with recovery and relapse issues involving methamphetamine, but that alcohol played a role in her Feb. 4 attack upon her boyfriend. She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted aggravated assault for cutting the man’s elbow during an argument at a home in the 2500 block of Chambers Ave. in Kingman.

Judge Lambert said it was “unfathomable” that Blocker retrieved two knives from the kitchen and attacked her fiance after she had been bumped in the head while sleeping. He said it was a violent and reckless response when being jostled at night is a common occurrence.

“I do have remorse for what happened,” Blocker said. “That wasn’t me.”

Blocker also pleaded guilty to endangerment and criminal damage counts for another dispute about a week before the knife assault. Authorities said Blocker had children 2 and 15 years of age in her vehicle when she intentionally plowed into another vehicle that was occupied by four people. No serious injuries resulted.

Judge Lambert noted Blocker’s prior criminal history and prison sentences of six months and 2.5 years for separate drug and burglary cases. Lambert also said a poor assessment by probation department officials and her violent criminal nature fortified his prison sentence decision.
