Catalytic converter thefts

Share

KINGMAN – The Kingman Police Department has taken numerous reports of stolen catalytic converters over the past year. A catalytic converter is an exhaust emissions control device installed along a vehicle’s exhaust system. It is designed to convert toxic gases and other pollutants into less toxic gas. The metals used in the catalytic converter are considered “precious metals” and are valuable to scrap metal dealers.

The removal of these converters is relatively quick and simple for thieves. These thieves can lay on the ground, under the vehicle, cut and remove the converter in a matter of minutes. Vehicle owners are encouraged to park vehicles in well-lit and highly visible area. Investigators believe the thieves responsible for the thefts are local thieves.

If you see something, please say something. A reward of up to $1000.00 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and apprehension of those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kingman Police Department by calling (928) 753-2191 or report anonymously to Mohave Silent Witness by calling (928) 7543-1234.
