KINGMAN – A young Mohave County Sheriff’s (MCSO) deputy has been arrested for sexual conduct with a minor involving a 15-year-old girl. Andrew Jacob Sundberg, 22, was placed on administrative leave by the sheriff’s office on Aug. 26 when the agency forward allegations of impropriety to the Kingman Police Department (KPD) for independent investigation.
KPD Public Information Officer Jennifer Sochocki said Sundberg is associated with the teenager through mutual friends.
“The investigation revealed that the incident occurred at a home in the 3000 block of Van Marter Ct. during a party held on June 30th,” Sochocki said. Investigators learned that both Sundberg and the victim had consumed alcohol and were intoxicated.”
Sochocki said Sundberg admitted sexual conduct when interviewed by detectives Tuesday. He was subsequently booked into the Adult Detention Facility operated by the MCSO.
“This is shocking and despicable behavior,” said Sheriff Doug Schuster. “Sundberg has betrayed the trust of the public and law enforcement alike. My thoughts are with the victim.”
Schuster said his office will assist in any way possible to ensure that Sundberg is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Sundberg started with the sheriff’s office as a detention officer in Jan. 2018, before he was promoted to deputy two years later.
