Blue Cross Blue Shield to provide scholarships to complete ACE training

MOHAVE COUNTY – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is providing scholarships for 40 individuals in Arizona communities and organizations to complete the Arizona Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Consortium’s 5-week training program to become a certified ACEs trainer.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that happen in childhood. In Arizona, more than half of adults have experienced at least one ACE. The more traumatic experiences an individual has before the age of 18, the greater their risk for health and social problems throughout their lifetime. A certified ACE trainer gains knowledge and skills to help inspire communities to break the cycle and mitigate the impact of ACEs and help foster the health and well-being of Arizonans. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is committed to building trauma-informed care capacity statewide to improve mental health outcomes for children and their families.

Training participants gain a deeper understanding of the ACE study, both nationally and statewide, and the short- and long-term impacts of trauma along the age continuum from children to adults. Participants learn resilience and trauma-informed care strategies, skills, and resources to support those who have experienced adversity and trauma.

The virtual training program begins on Oct. 19 and will be held every Tuesday for 5 weeks from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Individuals who are interested in deepening their knowledge about ACEs, learning more about this trauma-informed approach, and who are committed to continuing this work in their communities are encouraged to apply. Experience working in this area is helpful, but not required. To learn more, and to apply for the ACEs training scholarship, please visit mobilizeaz.com/ACE.
