KINGMAN – Northern Arizona University’s Center for Service & Volunteerism, which oversees the Mohave County AmeriCorps Seniors programs, is sponsoring a 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance event in Kingman on September 11. This year is significant, as it is the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
AmeriCorps Seniors (ACS) is partnering with multiple community organizations to unify and educate the community.
“I am proud to be able to work alongside these great people and organizations to make Kingman stronger and more connected. 9/11 was a very significant day in many of our lives. I am glad we have an opportunity to make a positive impact during the 20th anniversary,” said AmeriCorps Seniors Program Coordinator, Heather Brassil.
The organizations assisting with this event are the Kathryn Heidenreich Adult Center (KHAC), River Cities United Way (RCUW), The Alzheimer’s Association, Kingman Cares, and Bailey’s Window Cleaning. The community service project will commence at 8:00 am at KHAC (1776 Airway). There will be various projects for all ages and abilities to participate. A free BBQ lunch will be provided for all service participants at 11am. A 9/11 remembrance piece will take place after lunch, where individuals can share their experiences with others and learn about brain diseases that compromise memories. A virtual component will also be available statewide.

The NAU Center for Service & Volunteerism, based in Flagstaff, hosts multiple AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors projects. There are opportunities for individuals, age 17+, to serve in communities across Arizona.
