Bullhead Senior Campus gearing up for splendid September

Share

BULLHEAD CITY – September promises to offer new opportunities to our area seniors over the age of 50. Most activities are sponsored and completely free. The Campus is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to all seniors and after hours for special events.

New activities that are being introduced for the first time are a brand-new men’s coffee club called “What’s Going On?” The event will take place on the 2nd Friday of each month and is being sponsored by Mesteno Ranch Counseling. The group will take place in the front living room of the community center providing a casual place for the guys to discuss current events and issues, led by Jim Loeber-MSCC, LC, CISM Professional Counselor-Certified Life Coach, and Military Veteran. For questions contact Jim at (928) 362-2790 or ranchmesteno@gmail.com.

On the same day, Friday, September 10th we will be starting a 5-week session of Super Noggin which will provide you with tools to keep your mind sharp. Maxine Holmgren will walk you through the entire process and those signing up are encouraged to attend all 5 weeks to get the maximum benefit. Space is limited and all attendees will receive an instruction booklet with valuable materials (couples will get 1 book due to limited supply). The campus is also very excited to have H & R Block on site for 12 weeks every Monday & Wednesday from 4-7 pm to offer an Income Tax Course to all seniors 55+ for free. The class is open to others for a cost of $159 which will be made payable to the instructor on the 1st evening of class Monday, September 13th. This is a very special opportunity for seniors who wish to earn some income come tax season and have the opportunity to provide tax preparation to others. To receive an overview of the course, stop into the Senior Campus and pick up a flyer. The course starts, Monday, September 13th and you must attend all classes to get certified.

We are continuing our beginner sewing and quilting groups. For questions on sewing, contact Ivy Yeomans at (928) 234-7344. For questions on quilting contact: Jan Montgomery at jmontgom54@gmail.com or (928) 219-2050.  If you would like to help with materials needed please stop in with any of the following items between 8-4 Monday-Friday: Sewing machine, spray starch, rotary cutters, fabric, scissors, iron, quilt rulers, clear rulers, sewing machine, needles ie: Schmetz brand size 90/14, 90/11, seam ripper, chalk pencils, cotton material, batting, Christmas material, hand sewing needles, medium to large safety pins, quilting straight pins, sewing straight pins, jelly rolls, fat 1/4s.

Our “Angels Essential Area” which features donated items to the campus that are re-gifted to seniors in need is filling up quickly with the help of an amazing volunteer, Irene Reyna, who runs the area on Tuesdays from 10 am to 1 pm. Individuals who need items can browse and take the items home with them. It is first come first serve and no holds. Please come prepared with a plan to remove the items you need on the spot. Any cash donation for items will be placed in the activities fund. The fund directly assists activities for the senior campus. Cash donations are not required if individuals are unable and the proof is not required, but we will limit individuals so that everyone is able to enjoy access to the items. If anyone would like to make a donation, please bring it to the campus anytime we are open. Donations we are looking for are walkers, wheelchairs, and senior essential needs. We are unable to take any kind of medications, but they can be disposed of through the Bullhead City Police Department.
